‘The Fox King’ Returns Home After Winning Hearts at International Film Festivals: Malaysian-Indonesian film The Fox King is returning home after making an impression on audiences and festivalgoers at major international film festivals, including Toronto, Busan and Udine.
The film is set to open in Malaysian cinemas on September 17, bringing its acclaimed international journey to audiences in its home country.
The film’s appearances at prominent festivals in Toronto, Busan and Udine have helped place the Malaysian production on the international cinema map, generating attention beyond its domestic market.
Its homecoming is particularly significant as Malaysian audiences now have the opportunity to experience a film that has already travelled across several major international cinematic platforms.
The festival exposure in Toronto, South Korea’s Busan and Italy’s Udine represents an important milestone for Malaysian cinema, demonstrating the growing ability of local filmmakers to reach international audiences and participate in the global film-festival circuit.
With its Malaysian theatrical release scheduled for September 17, The Fox King now begins a new chapter at home after winning attention abroad.
The Fox King is a 2025 drama film directed and written by Woo Ming Jin. It stars Dian Sastrowardoyo, Idan Aedan, and Hadi Putra.
