Mediacorp and Blintn unveil new Singapore-South Korea romantic comedy Collateral Romance, led by Kim Myung-soo and Pyo Ye-jin, with Gladys Bay joining the cast: A new Singapore-South Korea collaboration is taking shape with Collateral Romance, a 12-episode romantic comedy bringing together creative and production expertise from both markets and filmed across Singapore and South Korea. The series builds on the growing momentum of cross-border Asian storytelling and reflects Mediacorp’s continued push to bring Singapore and international creative talents together.
Collateral Romance marks Mediacorp’s second Korean drama co-production, building on its growing creative ties with South Korea and broader strategy to develop sustained partnerships with leading creative players across Asia. Supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA), the series is co-produced by Mediacorp and Korean global content investment company Blintn, with Korea’s Bigwave Entertainment as the production house. Filmed across both countries and developed over months of close collaboration, the project brings together the creative expertise of Singapore and Korea, with the teams working closely across script development and production to realise a shared creative vision.
Helmed by acclaimed Korean director Kang Min-goo (Itaewon Class), writer Lee Do-yeon (Hit on the Spot), and Chief Producer Woo Saejin (Anna), together with Singapore’s Executive Producer Leong Lye Lin (SHERO), South Korean actors Kim Myung-soo (INFINITE L, Empathy Cells) and Pyo Ye-jin (Taxi Driver) are set to star as the leads in a new romantic series. Singapore’s Gladys Bay, a Seoul International Drama Awards winner, also joins the cast. Following her Korean drama debut in Absolute Value of Romance, this marks Bay’s second Korean production and reflects Mediacorp’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for local talent with leading creative partners beyond Singapore.
Collateral Romance follows Lee Jeong-sik, played by Kim, a free-spirited timber dealer with a passion for trees, and Na Da-woon, played by Pyo, a pragmatic merchandising director (MD) who dreams of an ordinary, stable life. Despite being polar opposites, the two cross paths by chance in an unfamiliar city and get swept up in an unexpected incident that entangles their everyday lives. As they spend more time together, they begin to understand each other’s unfamiliar worlds, giving rise to unexpected feelings between them.
Bay plays Chu Jini, the strong-willed daughter of a Singaporean mother and Korean father who travels to Korea to compete in the dance audition programme Street Dancing Queen. Though initially guarded, Jini gradually becomes a quiet source of strength for those around her as she builds unexpected bonds with those around her.
