Blue Planet III Makes a Spectacular Global Premiere in London, Bringing the Wonders of the Ocean to Piccadilly Circus: The wonders of the world’s oceans took centre stage in London as the highly anticipated Blue Planet III celebrated its global premiere with a spectacular public display at the iconic Piccadilly Lights. Presented by BBC Studios, the event transformed one of the British capital’s busiest public spaces into an immersive showcase of extraordinary marine life and underwater landscapes.
The launch marks the return of one of television’s most celebrated natural history franchises, approximately 25 years after the original The Blue Planet changed how audiences around the world understood life beneath the waves.
A giant whale appearing to breach above the London skyline, mesmerising underwater environments and remarkable ocean creatures featured in the display, offering Londoners a dramatic first look at the new series.
Sir David Attenborough Returns to Narrate the Series
The new production once again features the narration of legendary naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. In a specially recorded message shared with premiere guests, Attenborough reflected on his decades-long association with the franchise and the continuing discoveries being made in the marine world.
Attenborough expressed his delight at narrating a third instalment in the year of his 100th birthday, noting that the ocean continues to reveal life that is more surprising, sophisticated and important than previously understood.
His return reinforces the series’ commitment to combining compelling natural history storytelling with a deeper appreciation of the planet’s interconnected ecosystems.
Hans Zimmer and JADE Create the Musical Identity
The series features an original score from acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers Music.
The extended first-look trailer is accompanied by Into The Deep (Seas Cry), an original song created for the series by British singer and songwriter JADE, Hans Zimmer and Thom Lukas of the award-winning Bleeding Fingers Music team.
JADE described her involvement as a special privilege, citing her longstanding admiration for Blue Planet and Attenborough. Her collaboration brings contemporary music together with cinematic wildlife imagery, introducing the series to audiences through an emotionally driven soundtrack.
Zimmer highlighted the power of nature documentaries to inspire people through beauty and wonder rather than simply presenting environmental warnings. He emphasised that helping audiences fall in love with the natural world can encourage greater respect for the planet and a stronger commitment to protecting it.
BBC Studios Highlights the Importance of Ocean Storytelling
Zai Bennett, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of BBC Studios Global Content, described Blue Planet III as the next chapter in a landmark series that has helped audiences see the oceans differently for a quarter of a century.
He credited the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol and Attenborough’s storytelling with revealing remarkable aspects of the natural world and deepening public understanding of the shared environment.
The Piccadilly Lights premiere celebrated British creativity and its ability to captivate audiences across generations and around the world.
Global Release and Live Concert Experience
The extended first-look trailer for Blue Planet III, featuring JADE’s Into The Deep (Seas Cry), is available globally, offering an early glimpse of the marine wildlife and underwater stories featured in the upcoming series.
The production’s music and footage will also be presented in a live orchestral experience through the Blue Planet III Live in Concert tour, scheduled to launch across the United Kingdom and Europe in 2027.
The series is expected to return to screens in autumn 2026, according to BBC Earth’s announcement.
A Reminder of the Need to Protect the Oceans
Beyond its visual spectacle, Blue Planet III continues the franchise’s wider mission of bringing the natural world closer to audiences and encouraging greater awareness of marine ecosystems.
The oceans support an extraordinary diversity of life and play a vital role in the planet’s environmental balance. By showcasing previously unseen behaviours, fascinating species and little-understood underwater environments, the series aims to deepen viewers’ understanding of why these ecosystems matter.
The London premiere demonstrates how wildlife filmmaking, music and public displays can combine to make science and conservation accessible to a broad audience.
As the Blue Planet franchise enters its next chapter, its enduring message remains relevant: discovering the beauty of the natural world is an important step towards recognising the responsibility to protect it.
