2026 China Film Festival in Singapore to Showcase Seven Chinese Films, Opens with Peng Fei’s ‘Take Off’: The 2026 China Film Festival in Singapore will bring seven new Chinese films to local audiences from November 26 to 29, 2026, with the Singapore premiere of director Peng Fei’s comedy Take Off (2025) opening the festival.
Jointly organised by the Singapore Film Society (SFS), China Film Archive and China Enterprises Association (Singapore), the four-day event will take place at Golden Village VivoCity.
The festival will feature seven Singapore premieres, presenting a diverse selection of Chinese cinema spanning animated martial arts, historical action, family relationships, social issues and dance inspired by classical Chinese painting.
The public screenings will run from November 27 to 29, while the opening ceremony on November 26 will be invitation-only. The festival will conclude with a special encore screening of Singaporean director Ong Kuo Sin’s Reunion Dinner (2022), a Singapore-China co-production.
Seven Films Across Different Genres
The opening film, Take Off, stars Jiang Qiming and Li Xueqin. It follows an ordinary worker in late-20th-century China who takes up his father’s unfulfilled dream of inventing a flying machine. The comedy combines family responsibilities with an unusual ambition.
Other films in the programme include:
- I Am What I Am 2 (2024): An animated martial arts story about a village boy who enters a competition in Shanghai to raise money for his father’s medical treatment.
- As the Water Flows (2025): A family drama set around Kunming’s Green Lake, exploring companionship, reconciliation and relationships across three generations.
- Keep Real (2026): A story about a man returning to grassroots public service, where his ideals encounter social expectations and unwritten rules.
- Dunhuang Warriors (2026): A historical action film set during the Tang Dynasty, following an unlikely mission to secure reinforcements for a community.
- It’s OK (2026): A contemporary drama exploring women’s bodily autonomy, family relationships and generational differences.
- A Tapestry of a Legendary Land (2024): A dance film inspired by the celebrated Chinese painting A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains.
The closing presentation, Reunion Dinner, follows a couple whose livestreamed reunion dinner turns into comic chaos when the groom-to-be hires a substitute family to hide his estrangement from his mother.
