Kylie Minogue Delivers Spectacular Hometown Performance at 2026 AFL Grand Final: Australian pop superstar Kylie Minogue returned to her hometown in spectacular fashion on September 26, delivering a career-spanning performance at the 2026 AFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Performing before a crowd of more than 100,000 fans, Minogue headlined the pre-game entertainment with a specially created 20-minute show that celebrated more than three decades of her music and her deep connection to Melbourne.
The performance came after hours of rain in Melbourne, but the weather eased as Minogue took the stage. Opening with a video celebrating her Melbourne childhood, the singer then launched into a fast-paced collection of some of her biggest hits.
The set included “Love at First Sight,” “In Your Eyes,” “Get Outta My Way,” “On a Night Like This,” “All the Lovers,” “Spinning Around,” “Confide in Me,” “Slow,” “Padam Padam,” “The Loco-Motion” and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”
Star-Studded Performance
Minogue was joined on stage by Australian musicians William Barton and G Flip, adding new dimensions to the performance.
Kalkadunga musician William Barton appeared during “Confide in Me,” performing alongside Minogue in a dramatic arrangement featuring orchestral elements. G Flip later joined Minogue for a rock-inspired rendition of “Padam Padam.”
The show also featured Australian DJ and producer Dom Dolla, whose remix was incorporated into the finale of “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”
Kylie Takes Flight
The grand finale became one of the most memorable moments of the afternoon.
After a dramatic fake ending following “The Loco-Motion,” Minogue emerged from a giant illuminated football bearing her name and was lifted high above the MCG while performing “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”
The spectacular finale combined aerial staging, lighting, pyrotechnics and choreography, giving the enormous crowd a distinctly Kylie-style pop spectacle.
The production also featured more than 100 dancers, multiple costume changes and elaborate visual elements.
A Melbourne Homecoming
For Minogue, the performance carried particular significance. Born in Melbourne, the global pop star returned to perform at the AFL Grand Final in front of her home-city audience.
She became the first solo Australian act to headline the AFL Grand Final since Paul Kelly in 2019, and the first Australian performer to headline the event since the pandemic-era 2021 Grand Final in Perth. Recent Grand Final entertainment lineups had featured international stars including Robbie Williams, KISS, Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg.
Minogue’s appearance also highlighted the extraordinary longevity of her career. She has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, earned nine No. 1 albums in Australia and collected two Grammy Awards and 18 ARIA Awards.
Her recent international resurgence has included the global success of “Padam Padam” and her Grammy-winning Tension album, followed by the Tension Tour in 2026.
