Noah Wyle Named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2026, ‘The Pitt’ Star Surprised by Honour: American actor Noah Wyle, best known for his acclaimed performances in the medical dramas The Pitt and ER, has been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2026, adding another milestone to his decades-long career in television and film.
The 55-year-old actor received the announcement with disbelief, admitting that he initially thought the news sounded like a prank. Wyle told People magazine that he had never imagined receiving the honour in his lifetime.
His wife, actress Sara Wells, played an important role in convincing him to accept the recognition. Wyle explained that she believed the title reflected not only his appearance but also his character as a husband and father. He joked that she was pleased the honour reflected positively on her taste.
Wyle’s selection comes during a successful period in his career, following widespread acclaim for his performance in The Pitt, the medical drama set in a Pittsburgh trauma centre. He portrays Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, a physician navigating the intense demands of emergency medicine. The series has earned major industry recognition, including Emmy wins for Wyle and the show.
Before his success with The Pitt, Wyle became a familiar face to television audiences through his role as Dr John Carter in the long-running medical drama ER, which premiered in 1994. His performance on the series helped establish him as one of television’s best-known actors, alongside co-stars including George Clooney.
Interestingly, Wyle and Clooney previously appeared together in People magazine’s coverage of the ER cast. Clooney went on to receive the Sexiest Man Alive title twice, in 1997 and 2006, making Wyle’s latest recognition another connection between the former co-stars.
Beyond acting, Wyle has also pursued philanthropic work. He established the Noah Wyle Foundation in 2022 to support underserved communities, with a particular focus on children experiencing mental health challenges and food insecurity.
People magazine’s annual Sexiest Man Alive selection recognises prominent male personalities from entertainment and popular culture. The title has previously gone to stars including Jonathan Bailey, John Krasinski, Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba and Paul Rudd.
Wyle’s win highlights how his appeal extends beyond conventional celebrity glamour, reflecting his longstanding screen presence, professional achievements and reputation among colleagues. For the actor, the recognition arrives at a time when The Pitt has introduced his work to a new generation of viewers while reaffirming his place among television’s most respected performers.
