HBO Max has premiered Corregidora: The Darkest Night in Mexican Soccer, a three-part documentary series examining one of the most disturbing incidents in Mexican football history. Premiering on October 15, 2026, the HBO Original revisits the violence that erupted on March 5, 2022, during a match between Querétaro and Atlas at Corregidora Stadium in Querétaro, Mexico.

Produced by Pacha Films, the documentary reconstructs the events of that night and explores their aftermath, bringing together firsthand testimony, archival footage and investigative reporting to examine the incident and its lasting impact.

Revisiting a Dark Chapter in Mexican Football

The violence at Corregidora Stadium shocked the sporting world and raised serious questions about stadium security, crowd management and accountability.

Across three episodes, the documentary investigates the events surrounding the match, examining conflicting accounts and the experiences of those who witnessed or were affected by the violence.

The series features previously unseen testimony from victims, eyewitnesses, journalists, authorities and other individuals connected to the incident. By bringing together different perspectives, it seeks to provide a deeper understanding of what happened and the questions that remain unresolved.

Journalists, Officials and Supporters Share Their Accounts

The documentary features prominent Mexican sports journalists Óscar Balderas, Marion Reimers and Álvaro Morales. Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri and Gabriel Solares, former president of Club Querétaro, also appear.

Supporters of Querétaro and Atlas who witnessed the events firsthand contribute their accounts, offering personal perspectives on the violence and its aftermath.

Through these testimonies, the series explores the human consequences of the incident while examining the different narratives surrounding one of Mexican football’s most troubling episodes.

Alberto Arnaut Directs the HBO Original

Corregidora: The Darkest Night in Mexican Soccer is directed by Alberto Arnaut, with Mauricio Vélez and Lisa Estella serving as writers.

Mariano Cesar, Sergio Nakasone and Cecilia Abraham serve as executive producers for Warner Bros. Discovery, while Luis del Valle is the executive producer for Pacha Films.

The three-part series is an HBO Original production produced by Pacha Films.

A Broader Conversation About Football Safety

The documentary brings renewed attention to the challenges of preventing violence at sporting events and ensuring the safety of players, supporters and stadium staff.

Football holds a significant place in Mexican culture, uniting communities and passionate supporters. However, the Corregidora incident demonstrated how quickly violence can overshadow the sport and leave lasting consequences.

By combining firsthand accounts, archival material and investigative storytelling, the series encourages viewers to examine the events, consider the experiences of those affected and reflect on the importance of safety and accountability in football.

All three episodes of Corregidora: The Darkest Night in Mexican Soccer are available on HBO Max following their October 15, 2026, premiere.
